The DCZ 4th Agri-business Forum took place successfully in Beijing on 16 May 2017, The Forum focused on the topic of “Rural Structure Change”, and the presentations from each speaker reflected the dynamic development in Chinese rural area, and technology innovation and professional farmers’ education were once more addressed as important factors for moderation of farming. Over 100 representatives from Government, German Embassy, associations and companies from both China and Germany gathered for this important event.
Mr. Rainer Klepper from German Embassy welcomed the attendees.
Mr. Zhao Changbao, The Deputy Director-General from Policy Department of Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), delivered the keynote presentation on China land tenant policy, especially on very newly release policy on supporting farmers to get more benefit from land-use right.
Mr. Yang Kaibo from Economic Management Department of MoA, introduced the China new models of family farms. He addressed that government strongly encourages family farms with financial support and training to those farmers who have bigger farm size to conduct farming practice more professionally and efficiently.
Mr. Li Hongtao, Deputy Director-General of MoA Foreign Economic Cooperation Center, welcomed all guests, and he pointed out the importance of Chinese – German agribusiness dialogue via the platform of DCZ, and the Forum topic exact catch-up the current focus of China rural economic changes.
Mr. Bernd Koch, Managing Director of DLG International delivered welcome speech, and he also made keynote presentation on German rural structure change for a reference. The farmer population in Germany has decreased dramatically in the past 50 years from 23% to 1.6% at current, and average farm size is around 44 ha per farm. Mr. Koch also mentioned that the bio-energy, digitalized farming, and sustainable agriculture are on the focus in Germany, especially with consumer concerned organic farming and animal welfare.
The Forum is attended by industry representative and farmers too.
Mr. Jens Oeding from CLAAS attended the forum. Shenyang Huihuai Farm Cooperative Manager, Mr. Yu Yongzhi, Introduced his cooperative, which is founded at 2008 with 100 ha, till now over 2000 ha, with fully mechanization operation with wheat and rice production in northern China.
Ms. Zhang Qin, CEO from Win-All Seed Co. Ltd, presented her company initiatives of Young Farmers Training in South China. Every year, the company trains over 30 young graduates from University, with farming practice and technical training. Mrs. Zhang said, as lifelong engaged in agriculture, she had a dream that more and more young and well educated people are willing to work for agriculture. She also called for consumers to get closer look into agriculture, to set up trust between growers and consumers.
Mr. Marc Kruse-Friedrich, Head of DLG Academy, introduced the DLG action on training in agriculture and food sectors, including dairy farmers training, tractor drivers training, young farmer capacity building etc. DLG Academy conducts more than 200 trainings every year to over 3000 trainees, including participants from China.

Each Panelist introduced his own experiences in daily agriculture business, and also expressed the challenge and future perspective for development.
The Forum was concluded by the remark from Mr. Conrad Hoyos, and he mentioned that DCZ is a communication platform for Sino – German cooperation in terms of agricultural dialog, scientific research, vocation training and industry cooperation. Mr. Hoyos said the 5th Sino – German Agri-business Forum will take place in Nov 2017 in Hannover during Agritechnica.
Participants had the chance to visit a poster exhibition and exchange experience. Some comments of participants are characterizing the meeting. Participants expressed the positive feedback on the forum which provided a very
good network platform for information exchange, and also had an overview on the broad scope for potential Sino – German agriculture cooperation. Participant also express wishes to visit Germany and have a closer look on German sustainable agricultural development.
