MARA: Ensure “Food Basket” Supply During the Holiday Season
by Johannes Kluge
On the meeting on Dec 1st MARA stated that it is crucial to ensure “food basket” supply during Chinese New Year 2020, especially big cities should shore up its pork supply and develop its poultry, beef and aquatic products during the holiday season. It also stated that pork reserves should play a decisive role in the market, investment in large scale slaughterhouses should be increased, various market distorting or manipulating behaviors should be strictly controlled and punished. Vice premier, Hu Chunhua, who was also in attendance, stressed the importance of the “food basket” supply for the wellbeing of the Chinese people. He also stated cities should rigorously implement a “green tunnel” policy towards transportation of agricultural products, so the markets are properly supplied during the important holiday season, especially cities in the north of China should maintain its winter vegetable reserve and prevent price fluctuations.
