VDMA Agricultural Machinery China Management Meeting held in Qingdao
by Johannes Kluge
On 5 March 2019, the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association VDMA China Representative Office hosted an Agricultural Machinery China Management Meeting (CMM) in Qingdao, Shandong Province. Altogether, 41 participants representing 21 international agricultural machinery companies respectively from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, etc., attended the one-day meeting. At the invitation of the chief representative of VDMA in China, Dr. Jürgen Ritter, German Managing Director of the Sino-German Agricultural Centre (DCZ), and Prof. Liu Yonggong, DCZ advisor for agri-business cooperation and professor at the China Agricultural University, attended the meeting and presented the work of the DCZ.
Mr. Luca Mainardi, CNH Industrial China Country Manager, chaired the meeting. Ms. Claudia Barkowsky, Chief Representative of VDMA Beijing Office, and Mr. Alexander Haus, Regional Manager of VDMA, jointly presented the results of a China Agricultural Machinery Market Survey. Following the market analysis presentation, participants discussed market challenges and opportunities faced by international agricultural machinery manufacturing companies in the context of the Chinese agricultural and rural development and the changes of the global agricultural machinery market. Another topic of the discussion were impacts of China’s new vehicle emission standard on agricultural machinery manufacturers.
Dr. Jürgen Ritter introduced the Sino-German Agricultural Centre with a focus on the project background, objectives, the four componens of agricultural policy dialogue, agro-business dialogue, agricultural science and technology cooperation, and information sharing. He also presented the priority thematic areas agreed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) and the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), namely sustainable environmentally friendly livestock production, dialogue on seeds, policy instruments for sustainable agricultural development, digital/smart agriculture, climate-smart agriculture, etc. Prof. Liu Yonggong briefly highlighted the DCZ as a platform for German companies and associations such as the VDMA, which can be effectively used at relevant events, like the annual Agribusiness Conference or the Sino-German Agricultural Week, for presenting the companies and products as well as for sharing policy and regulatory issues related – as in the present case – to machinery manufacturing and marketing in China.
Mr. Ning Xuegui from the China Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers (CAAMM) delivered a Chinese Machinery Market Analysis with a focus on the domestic market demand, challenges and business opportunities for the international agricultural machinery companies.
Maschio Gaspardo China, an Italian Agricultural Machinery Company registered in China, was co-organizer and provided the venue for this meeting at its premises in Qingdao. Mr. Alessio Riulini, Director of Maschio Gaspardo China, also presented their products and market sales in different regions of China. At the end of the event participants were invited to visit the manufacturing workshop of the company.
