As an opportunity for evaluation of previous work and as an outlook towards the next phase of the animal breeding project, the annual held cattle symposium took place for the sixth time on Nov 30 until Dec 01, 2017 and thus proved to be a well-established event for the project.
Three ceremonies presided over the event. At the beginning stood the official extension of the project until June 2018. This was followed by the delivery of a summary of the project to the public in form of a book by the National Animal Husbandry Service (NAHS). On the German side ADT Projekt GmbH symbolically transferred current cattle genetics to the demo farms, after a 5 years ban or restrictions to import genetics to China. The transfer of the cattle genetics by four main business partners of the project marked a major step in the Sino-German cooperation.
Prof. Wang Yahun from Chinese Agricultural University in Beijing afterwards presented in her paper the results obtained from the use of genetics in China. In addition to the performance benefits in both milk and meat, the German genetics is characterized by the improvements in resilience and adaptability compared with other origins under the conditions in China. A continuous collection of data will help support these results.
As a further result of intensive discussions between demo farms and commercial partners more modern means of communication such as WeChat groups and closer links between experts and the experience of the enterprises will be initiated. The guiding instruments used are developed and designed to allow greater dissemination of the project in China.
